Phillip crafted a completely new narrative for this apartment by working with the existing architecture and not moving a single wall. The clients were octogenarians and world travelers, incredibly cultured and well-read, with a personal interest in Turkish art, craft and traditions. Phillip repurposed pieces the couple had collected over the years, giving new meaning to treasured objects by framing some and designing new ways to display others. Instead of a formal dining room, he devised a salon that included a dining table, albeit set with objects instead of fine china, and a sitting area with a long sofa. The entry was meant to feel like walking into a Klimt painting, with gold, silver and copper leaf embedded into plaster walls creating textural flecks that oxidize at different rates over time.
